St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Washington, D.C. has a rewarding opportunity for a Church Administrator position in the Finance and Administration Department. St. Mark is a growing church in the Northern Virginia suburban area, with a congregation of about 1,200 families.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The Administrator manages all office administration and business functions and oversees overall operations, which includes the general responsibility for oversight of finances, non-spiritual ministry staffing, and facilities. In addition, the Administrator identifies and plans for the changing needs of the organization and contributes to cost-effective management. The Administrator also participates in management meetings and shares responsibility in a team environment for strategic planning.

Major responsibilities will include the following areas:

General Administrative:
  • Coordinating and supervising overall administrative support for spiritual ministry staff
    members and all church activities, including church holidays and major events as well as
    regularly scheduled church services and activities; working with Facilities Manager
    and/or Operations Committee or ministry to ensure provision of facilities and IT needs
    for all church services and activities

  • Supervisory responsibility for all non-spiritual ministry staff, including oversight of independent contractors and outsourced work; overseeing church administration volunteer ministries; responsibility for planning with respect to the staffing needs of the church

  • Participating in regular meetings with the Finance & Administration Committee and/or Board to engage in the strategic planning for church, the development of administrative and other policies for the church, and the planning and coordination of special church projects, such as church expansion plans and other growth initiatives

Financial:
  • Budget planning and oversight and overall oversight of financial functions of church
    organization, including donations and collections processes, bookkeeping, and the
    development of, and compliance with, the financial policies and procedures of the
    organization

  • Working with the Treasurer to review internal accounting functions; reviewing weekly/monthly financial statements and management reports; monitoring cash flow, deposits, accounts, oversee banking relationships; providing and interpreting financial information for operational development projects and purchases; analyzing ongoing operational fiscal performance

Human Resources:
  • Responsibility for compliance with HR policies and procedures; compensation and
    benefits administration; recruiting administrative staff; facilitating new hire orientation,
    training & development; hiring and overseeing the performance of outsource firms and
    independent contractors; responsibility for setting goals, performance evaluations, and
    counsel for staff and managing personnel files

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; MBA preferred (but not required). Minimum 4 years related experience and/or training, including minimum 3 to 5 years of management experience in a supervisory role. Basic level working knowledge of HR practices is highly preferred.

  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability and attention to detail
  • Computer literacy, specifically MS Word for Windows
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally
