The Sower went out to sow His seeds (Luke 8:5 )

Jeremiah 17: 7-10

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? ‘I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.’ ”

How difficult it is to search one’s heart! The darkness in our hearts bewilders our own perception of our heart’s condition. In other words, our own search might be biased and according to this world’s standards due to our limited knowledge and enlightenment. Therefore, it is great to hear that God is willing to search our hearts for us---even better news, all we need to do is constantly ask Him and He does the rest mysteriously. It is a promise that we should believe wholeheartedly, especially during times of spiritual warfare. In fact, sometimes God withdraws grace from sources (services, people, etc.) that take much of our attention from Him so that we learn to obtain grace only from Him. Hence, we should not be anxious but wait patiently for His work in us to be completed and anticipate faithfully the fruit of His work.

Take some time and meditate on the passage. Do you see yourself as a strong plant? How do you experience God’s comfort, help, and reward?

Dear Lord,

How great are You! You know my weaknesses, yet You are never disappointed at me; Thank You for knowing in advance that my heart is wicked and that I do not even know it. Please help me surrender to You and open my heart for You to search it, clean it, and cultivate it. I thank You for Your abundant mercy, grace, and love towards me. Amen.
