Psalm 89:20-25

20 I have found My servant David;
With My holy oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom My hand shall be established;
Also My arm shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not outwit him,
Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23 I will beat down his foes before his face,
And plague those who hate him.

24 “But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him,
And in My name his horn shall be exalted.
25 Also I will set his hand over the sea,
And his right hand over the rivers.

King David accepted his anointing and allowed God to work in him, thus he was shown victorious in all the surrounding kingdoms. The Holy Spirit is the one who fights our battles for us. If we allow Him to work, He will crush our enemy under His feet and we will be victorious and glorified with Him. He will not leave us to be destroyed if we make room for Him.

  How can I release the grip I have on my life and leave room for the Holy Spirit to do His work?

Whatever my calling may be, I ask that you give me of the endurance and love of striving that was in the ascetic life of St. Moses the black. The torch of the Holy Spirit was passed on from St. Anthony to St. Macarius to him, and it led him to seek the struggle and repentance that elevated him closer to You. Please provide me this same fiery Spirit, that I may walk in Your way. Amen.
